Aggies Set Their Sights on Salt Lake City Tennis Showdown
SALT LAKE CITY – Following a hiatus of over two weeks from competitive action, the NM State women's tennis team is embarking on a challenging journey to Utah, where they will face their sternest competition yet in the ITA Mountain Regional.
The field in Salt Lake City includes not only the Aggies but also fierce rivals such as New Mexico, UTEP, and the hosting Utah. A deep and competitive lineup features teams like Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Colorado State, Denver, Montana, Northern Arizona, Idaho, Idaho State, Nevada, UNLV, Utah State, Utah Tech, Weber State, and Wyoming.
Representing NM State in the 64-player main draw, Anna Pinaieva and Lisa Zhu will commence their matches at 8:30 a.m. MT. Pinaieva is set to go head-to-head with Colorado's Elys Ventura, while Lisa Zhu is scheduled to launch her week with a matchup against Boise State's Caroline Driscoll.
The second singles flight in Salt Lake City will showcase another pair of Aggies, with both Natsuki Nishimura and Valeriia Ivanovskaia taking to the courts on Tuesday. Nishimura's initial opponent is Colorado's Anya Nelson, and Ivanovskaia is primed to challenge BYU's Madison Smith in the tournament's opening round.
